Wiveliscombe (known locally as Wivey) is approximately three miles away. There are some good local shops for both food and gifts along with two public houses and cafes/restaurants.
Bampton is 7 miles away just over the Devon border and again has good local shops, pubs and cafes. The centre of Bampton is a conservation area and there is Bampton Fair in October
Exmoor National Park – Within half an hour’s drive of Waterrow you can reach Dulverton, the gateway to Exmoor National Park opening up 265 square miles of unspoilt heathland, valleys and woodland. Popular places to visit are Tarr Steps, Dunkery Beacon, Lynton and Lynmouth and the Doone Valley.
Other towns worth a visit are Taunton – County town for Somerset – Tiverton, Dunster, Dulverton and Minehead.
Walking and cycling
If you enjoy walking there are many lovely walks around Waterrow and we are on the route of the West Deane Way. If you would like to bring your bikes, you need to be quite fit as this is a hilly area! Exmoor is beautiful walking country and you can also walk round Clatworthy Reservoir (no dogs allowed) or Wimbleball Lake. The Somerset Levels are approximately 30 minutes drive, wonderful for walking, cycling and birdwatching.
Fishing
You can fish in the River Tone on the Park, but you need to be quite good! You can also fly fish at Exebridge, Clatworthy Reservoir or Wimbleball Lake.
There are also coarse fishing venues close by in Waterrow and at Shillingford, Oakford and Langford Lakes – all within ten minutes drive.
