SUSTAINABILITY
Here at Waterrow Touring Park we have taken sustainability very seriously from when the park was originally converted from a diary farm to a touring park, many years ago to this current time, using every opportunity and investment to help the environment
Here is a brief summary of our commitment to you the customer during your stay and our environment:
-
Natural spring water. There are several spring water outlets labelled around the caravan park. This water is safe to drink and is also tested by the local authorities.
-
Klargester Treatment Plant and sceptic tank. All sewerage from the caravan park is processed by our treatment plant and the treated water from this runs into the River Tone. We do have a licence for this and again is tested from time to time. Our sceptic tank is used for Elsan (where chemicals are used) and this sits in a holding tank and then the overspill enters the treatment plant where the process continues.
-
Solar power. There are 110 solar panels installed on our facilities barn, generating lots of electricity every day, especially when the sun is shining.
-
Recycling. We have separate bins purely for recycling plastic, paper, cardboard and glass.
-
Local. In addition to employing staff members who live locally, we promote all local businesses where appliable - restaurants (negotiating discounts), pubs, shops, purchasing from local companies, selling local produce, promoting local events, using local businesses for products and services
-
David Bellamy Conservation Award. This award is aimed for caravan parks that are working to protect and enhance Britain's environment and is one of the longest running green tourism awards in the UK - Waterrow have held this award for decades and continue to invest in this brilliant achievement.
-
Lighting. The lighting around the caravan park and also inside our facilities have been changed to LED lights, that consume less energy, last longer and are more environmentally friendly.
-
Battery store (BESS). During 2024 we invested in a large bank of batteries that are charged during the day by our solar panels and the energy from this is used when needed. The system is very intelligent and balances supply and demand and puts the energy into good use when and where necessary.
-
Hot water heating. Another project in 2024 involved us completely re-vamping the hot water system, installing two highly efficient water tanks where they are both heated by the solar panel system, basically providing the whole of our facilities (showers, toilets, etc) with free hot water during daylight hours. The system is designed to hold enough hot water day and night but can be topped up by battery store, gas or last resort from the grid.
-
Store and stay facility. This facility is offered to customers where they keep their caravan in our storage compound and we put the caravans out onto pitch when they book to stay - doing this reduces carbon omissions with less cars with caravans on the road.
-
Electric hand tools. Again, another project in 2024 was purchasing new electrical equipment that can be charged mainly during the day with an array of batteries. The equipment used, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, strimmer, hand mower are not only environmentally friendly, but also much quieter.
